MONTREAL

Pictures from a City in Decline. I don’t know any city where shabbiness and dilapidation
is so admired, glorified and elevated to something charming and picturesque.

A documentary and critic of complacency and aesthetic apathy in Montreal.

Help! We are stranded, trapped, marooned - on Montreal Island. by Josh Freed

First we were told the Champlain Bridge is falling down - but now suddenly it’s the Mercier Bridge, too. The Jacques Cartier could be next, and then the Victoria - cutting off all escape routes.

We may soon be prisoners of Montreal Island, trapped forever in a forest of orange cones. In recent years we’ve seen collapsing roads, collapsing overpasses, collapsing stadiums and now collapsing bridges. If this were Toronto they’d call in the army.

City officials say it could be 20 years before our broken bridges are fully fixed - which probably means 40. This may mean two-hour traffic jams out of the city, plus 90-minute drives through construction to get to the bridges…..

If you have not lost your sense of humour yet, here is the full text. Very funny!
