While the rest of Canada was reasonable enough to elect a majority government, Westmount, the arguably most affluent district in Montreal, sent a communist (NDP) to Ottawa. The slogan of the NDP was ” I (Jack Layton) care for the money on your kitchen-table, and not for the money on the boardroom-table” A more retarded understanding of economy is hardly possible. And Quebec, who is since twenty years throwing a monkey-wrench into the machinery of governing, -first with the Bloc Québécois- did it again, by appointing a Marxist as the official opposition. Go figure!

The last 24 hours have been a little bizarre for Liberal Marc Garneau. The former astronaut went to bed Monday night having lost his seat in the Montreal riding of Westmount-Ville-Marie. But when he woke up Tuesday morning, he was once again an MP. “If you believe in miracles, this was definitely one of those miracles,” he said. Garneau gave his concession speech Monday night, but there were still 10 uncounted ballot boxes at the time. He congratulated the winner, NDP candidate Joanne Corbeil, then went home, and went to bed. In the middle of the night, he received a phone call from his campaign team. Garneau came out on top by 600 votes.
